Remember back during Asheboro's bitter battle-of-the-wets-and-drys, when the Schmidlys were telling us that the sale of alcohol, once voted in, would be strictly overseen and policed by the state?
I guess they didn't get the memo in New Hanover County.
Brooke sits on the ABC Board now. And Steve fancies himself a Randolph County "celebrity".
I'm wondering, as long as alcohol is here to stay, why not get the state out of the equation altogether, and privatize sales (that way, I might be able to get that "delisted" blueberry schnapps I like . . . and another bottle of the exquisite/fragrant grappa that my pal Kim got me a few years back . . . without being forced to order an entire case)? Let the market police itself.
Brooke and Steve could go back to being ordinary justice-seeking lawyers (although I'm not sure that's representation I'd wish on anybody).
I daresay the market would do a better job.
