While the truth-seeking, uber-enlightened, free-speech-loving progressives in the GSO blogopsphere (who snickered and giggled and shared secret passwords with a cyber-stalker last year) attempt to pass off their
. . . I thought I'd offer up this spot-on Wall Street Journal editorial on the failure of oh-so-progressive mental-health policies as food for thought.
[Just so we're clear, the aforementioned cyber-stalker is the SAME "child of a borderline Mother with sociopathic tendencies" (his own words) Greensboro-area blogger with a history of violence that the combined incompetence of the Randolph County Sheriff's Department & District Attorney's office (along with the bored indifference of Judge Michael Sabiston) allowed to walk free without so much as a referral to anger management therapy.]
I'm thinking that an honest "discussion" about mental healthcare in this area/state/country is a whole lot more factual/relevant to the issues-of-the-day (as opposed to the 12th century) than Edward Cone-of-the-Cone's latest musings on "blood libel". Six people, including a child, are dead - many more wounded, the perpetrator will likely get off on an insanity plea, and in the never-ending blame game, all the political left has been able to focus on since it happened is a politcal strategy map!?!
[OBTW, on that thread, David Wharton makes a very good point about the actual meaning of the term Palin used to (very accurately I think) describe what has been going on . . . "the accusation that the "blood libel" refers to is certainly anti-Semitic, but the expression, in every instance I've seen, asserts that the accusation is false; that's what "libel" means. Thus the expression, in denotation, connotation, and implication is always anti-anti-Semitic".
As someone who successfully fended off a "libel" - aka "SLAPP" - lawsuit, I find David's analysis brilliant - instantly disarming of those now whining about her use of the term.]
But hey, as one of those "extremist" conservative bloggers that Cone & company love to hate (AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, MARGINALIZE) what do I personally know about the short-comings of mental healthcare in this state/country (for the record, I know more-than-I-ever-wanted-to-know about schizophrenia too - but I'm not going to blog about it - in deference to the friends - yes, that's plural - I love who SUFFER from the disease)?
Moreover, professionally, in terms of providing mental health care to children - using dwindling/near-decimated resources . . . or seeing what generations of FAILED liberalized social policy has done for the environments in which children are raised . . . I'm just a "stupid", "crazy" doctor who got burned in public service.
Roch Smith, Jr., you see, is so much smarter and better educated and more experienced in these things than I (or Joe Guarino or "Cheripicker"). And he's much more well-versed in how things work in the military or public service than Bubba and I. I mean, we'll all idiots and morons . . . real Neanderthals . . . compared to him. And as Neanderthals, we're supposed to enjoy being poked with sticks.
Since Housecalls is a local blog (and nothing if not "all about me"), I cannot miss the opportunity to point out (again) that down in Asheboro, where we ship our Jared Loughners elsewhere for treatment and then blame the treatment facility when they cannot handle the load, Randolph Hospital CEO, Bob Morrison, is still the $700,000 man.
Apart from driving good, homegrown Pediatricians out of town for saying "to HELL with the False Advertising and Cooperative Relationships and Amoral Threats" and saving a very sick newborn's life, what does this man and his minions do . . . what could they EVER do . . . that might justify a small town, "non-profit" hospital paying out this kind of money to its head suit - while the hospital ships residents out of the county for mental health care?
But since 2003, the Edward Cones-of-the-Cones, and John Robinsons and Ray Criscoes that pontificate from their ivory towers (or behind their paywalls) about their journalistic ethics, integrity, and overall concern-for-the-common-man, will tell you that there's NOTHING to see down in Asheboro . . . MOVE ONE ALONG!
Mary's story-of-woe . . . and her hard-earned observations about the medical landscape there . . . are not-at-all "relevant" to anything going on in the world today.
The public just doesn't need to know what's been going on since the Clinton administration - especially if it takes more than three brain cells to process. After all, Snookie wants to be known as Nicole again (a REAL MSN headline - from today). And never mind the brain matter and blood staining a Safeway's walls in Arizona . . . which could just as easily be the local Food Lion . . . except that Howard Coble is more concerned about light-bulbs these days than anything an ordinary citizen might care enough to actually discuss with him at a meet-&-greet.
(Disclaimer: I could've used much more vivid imagery in the preceding paragraph but thought better of it - lest the Department of Homeland Security visit Housecalls any more than they already have. And, no matter how much Ed Cone wants you to believe otherwise, I don't want somesicksomeone somewhere processing anything said here as an imaginary bulls eye.)
As an aside, while we're on the subject of Edward Cone . . . and as an example of the stellar, high-minded dialogue coming from those who denigrate the "far-right-wing" for hobby and sport . . . I give you "Fec/Jeff Martin" (the aforementioned unconvicted cyber-stalker) today, on Cone's blog (and not deleted) where Sam Spagnola is banned and I'm considered a "wackjob"/"troll":
"I understand your desire to host all comers, but this blog would attract more thoughtful comments if you somehow scraped some of this shit off your shoe".
Isn't it nice, dear readers, for entire segments of the American population to be regarded by fine, up-standing, culturally-sensitive/aware, progressive bloggers as "SHIT" on the bottom of their shoes . . . to be scraped off and left behind?
Nothing remotely provocative or offensive about that. No Siree!
Their moral high-ground can't reach the gutter. But at least Dr. Mary will have some company under those shoes now . . . while the puffing Huffsters in our state's medical mainstream will continue to pretend that bad things don't happen in their sacred-cow social programs.
So. By ALL means. Let's blame ALL of the problems of this state and country on the "right wing", that evil Sarah Palin and the Republican party (Disclaimer: I'm not a member). Let's ban and de-link anyone who can make a coherent argument against the liberal sacred cows based on facts or (horrors!) life experience. Banish their blogs from the local aggregators! And while we're at it, let's ban bad words and burn books!
After all, the progressive/enlightened left - especially the progressive/enlightened left of North Carolina - has no skeletons in its closet and has left no bodies in its wake . . . at least none the up-turned noses of the journalists in this blogosphere care to see.
They've been very content to watch me bleed-out (mine was a back wound) in the corner.
It's been a real HOOT!
(And no one can figure out why there is a Tea Party?!?)

When Fec dies, they'll administer an enema and bury his remains in a shoebox.
LOL!!! I've been laughing for two solid minutes. My eyes are watering and I'm slapping the side of the chair.
Thanks for that.
Ah now it works: I offer you this in regard to you remarks on Blood libel. I think you will agree.

Oh and as far as the box for Fec is concerned, he won't need one even the size of a match box. Just flushing the small piece of toilet paper with his remains on it will be more than sufficient.
P, I think David Wharton covered the subject beautifully over at Cone's when responding to Sue Polinsky. "Blood Libel" actually an "anti-anti-Semitic" term . . . which boasts no property rights of Jews over Gentiles (from Alaska).
And it was appropriate to use in this instance. What the left has hurled at Palin - simply because she's Palin - is despicable.
Of course, our Edward is still trying to make hay, but it IS Edward Cone, and he apparently doesn't have much to do during any given day.
Several people have commented (with incredulity) on how both Ed and Roch have seemed determined to "rehabilitate" Jeff Martin (I no longer use his alias) in the wake of all the stunts he pulled last year.
Not playing. Martin should be familiar with the term.
