Mama came over to my house today to have our traditional New Year's Day meal. I made the jambalaya (made with Zatarain's seasoning, chicken, Jimmy Dean's sage sausage, and Polska Kielbasa) . . . she brought the greens seasoned with bacon, black-eyed peas, and jalapeno cornbread. It has something to do with symbolizing/ensuring prosperity and good luck throughout the year (beans swell, money's green, that kind of thing).
When we sat down, I offered Mama a cup of coffee I had especially brewed (in a French press, no less) for the occasion - served uncharacteristically in one of my smaller/dainty porcelain cups. She looked at me quizzically and sipped. "What is it?", she asked.
"Cat's Ass Coffee," I innocently/sweetly responded. "A Christmas gift from two of the Yas." The look on her face was priceless.

I've heard of that particular coffee, a rare and expensive blend. If you ever have another meal like that, please invite me, and I'll gladly supply the ice tea...which you can rest assured has not been passed through any gastrointestinal tract.
I liked the Kopi Luwak. I would describe the taste as a very smooth roast - not bitter at all. But given the price (it's supposed to be the most expensive in the world), I'm not sure I'm gonna be buying much of it myself.
The meal was wonderful (and you/yours are always welcome to crash). I don't know exactly what Mama and I did - but the flavors of every dish blended beautifully.

It's just something that Mama's know how to do and we youngens never seem to get the hang of exactly like Mama did it.
