Regular readers know that, given my experience in public service (enduring what I have after reporting a sentinel event), I'm always pretty put out with JCAHO . . . but am especially so right now . . . over their elevation of former Navy Surgeon General, Admiral Donald C. Arthur to a post that allows him to make decisions about the care provided by other doctors who actually have REAL credentials.
On January 28th, the Institute for World Politics is sponsoring a "special lecture" by VADM Arthur, on the subject of "Medical Diplomacy".
It's a special subject to be sure. For it obviously took a whole lot of diplomacy for the Admiral to get where he is based on false/fraudulent credentials. According to reputable sources, his MA, PhD and JD - degrees he claimed in order to (1) get into medical school and (2) boost his military pension - are little more than hot air.
And the combat experience he claims is a apparently a myth: Hocus pocus to put a pretty ribbon on his dress whites. The thing is that combat ribbons are supposed to MEAN something.
The man is a fraud and it's far past the time he was exposed. The United States Navy will remove a distinguished aviator and experienced carrier Captain from his command post for something that was clearly done in jest when he was a lesser officer - and in an attempt to make himself more approachable/relieve the stress of his troops - something the Navy brass has actually known about for several years (I believe the liberals who laugh hysterically at South Park and plasticized Kathy Griffin going after sixteen-year-old Willow Palin would call it "satire" in any other context) , but they will let Arthur keep his honors. What gives?
One more thing, the officers/doctors that Admiral Arthur passed negative judgement on and actually hurt (as opposed to merely "offended") during his ascent to power should be restored.
Enough with the acceptable collateral damage. The world's finest Navy has a lot more to answer for than some sophomoric videos.

Any Naval Officer or Enlisted person may be recalled to active duty to account for actions taken while on active duty. The US Navy must recall VADM Arthur to active duty, charge him with the appropriate UCMJ violations, convene a court martial and try him. He has violated the UCMJ and betrayed the constitution, the nation and the US Navy and its people. He deserves to be held to account.
