. . . just in time to find out that former FNB/Community One President, Mike Miller, has been nominated as a finalist to be President of Pfeiffer University. Miller's qualifications (compared to the other two clearly much better qualified candidates) seem to be his stewardship of the bank. Unbelievable!
(The mushroom cloud that will be visible just north of Greensboro tomorrow morning will be my friend, Buzz Armfield's head exploding.)
As the daughter of a teacher, I've always DESPISED the adage, "Those who can, do. Those who can't do, teach," (credited to George Bernard Shaw). But in this one case, it most certainly applies.
As for being banned by Ray Criscoe, it's not a big surprise and I wear it proudly - as a badge of honor. Those who block/ban/threaten/intimidate can't stand the heat.

The state of higher education has reached a new low....
Not yet. And we have reason to hope. The other two candidates for the job appear (on paper) much more qualified than Miller.
(I thought that was a clump of your brain matter splattered on my windshield this morning when I went out to start my car.)
The most appalling/maddening thing about this is that the Courier is apparently pumping this up (I say apparently because I cannot log in to read their story). Mike Miller is Asheboro's own living breathing example of the Wall Street BS that put this country . . . and the bank account & retirement funds of FBC shareholders . . . and this town in the crapper.
But a North Carolina university is seriously considering him to lead young minds into the future? Something smells.
And none of us on the receiving end of Mike's largesse over the years can apparently have a negative opinion about that?
In terms of "Free Speech", there's another very ugly/ominous undercurrent going on here:
After six months of testing the water (and finding out that it's scalding hot), Ray Criscoe is suddenly banning and blocking readers like you and I (people who have the cahoones to talk back) . . . and trying intimidating anyone who might say anything bad about the way they run their operation (or the community dirty pool they've shored up for years) with blather about "libel" . . . JUST BEFORE AN ELECTION.
Classic lowball SLAPP/scare tactics. And for a newspaper - whose JOB it is to sniff out the truth . . . it's almost as despicable as a "non-profit" hospital firing a Pediatrician for saving a baby's life.
The Courier can put up their endorsements and Editorials and continue their little small town mind-control act - and they think it will work in this Internet age.
Yeah right (I'll have more on this later):

The question begs, WHEN is the Stephens Media Group (who has know there is a problem for a long time) going to reign Ray Criscoe in - and tell him to clean up his act?
He has ZERO credibility in the "fair and balanced" department.
Or better yet, why not get rid of him - and let the Courier Tribune be a real community newspaper again - in a way that is has not been in almost two decades.
