Our Lexie and her parents (Brandon and Rebecca) continue to battle AML. Her parents send family and friend continuous updates through a website called Caring Bridge.
When she does get to come home, Lexie generally does not get to play with her cousins (including my niece Abigail) . . . for fear she will "catch something" from them that, while comparatively "nothing" to the cousins, could kill her.
As Lexie approaches her fifth and final round of chemotherapy, she is doing amazingly well. From Friday's journal update (her Mother is writing):
Lexie will probably be in the hospital for about 30 days. We did get to enjoy the week we had at home. She got to play outside with several of her cousins. Lexie usually stays inside while her cousins look at her through the windows on the front porch to protect her from getting sick.
Well, when Lexie saw my sister Erica's little girl (Abby) up close and in person she started making excited noises, shouting her name and got the shakes.
When Brandon's sister came over with her two little ones (Kennedy and Davis), Lexie had a ball chasing them trying to give them hugs. Lexie didn't understand that her cousins were told by their mom not to touch her. Lexie couldn't catch them so all of a sudden she would pretend to fall down with great dramatic effect, so they would come rescue her and then she would get 'em.
Just a few more months and she should be able to play with all her friends.
I wish I could have seen that. And from her Mother's lips to God's ear.
