It's better than any soap-opera . . . with Edwards now playing the role of a Stephan Dimera or James Stenbeck (Elizabeth reminds me of Stephanie Forester or Helena Cassadine) . . . while the hapless Youngs are minor ex-baddies-in-love suffering through character rehab.
And I'm LOVING THIS! I so want the Enquirer to take home that Pulitzer.
It blows my mind that the Feds are allowing this lawsuit to continue (the tape is, after all, damning evidence). It amounts to intimidating a witness and obstructing justice.
Moreover, I am bemused by all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth over perjury . . . given that the Randolph County DA, the N.C. or U.S. Attorneys General or the N.C. State's Bar have not given a rat's tail about the clear-cut case of perjury I reported almost seven years ago (you know, the case that lawyer and candidate for Guilford County Commissioner, Sam Spagnola, thinks I should give up).
I suppose it's all about priorities. And, in this era of fiscal corruption and healthcare reform, it's clear what those priorities are in North Carolina:
If you're a doctor-formerly-in-public-service, exposing the bold-faced lies of a pair of "non-profit" hospital executives . . . that legally clubbed you/your life/your career like a baby seal: SILENCE & RIDICULE.
But if you're a reformed/charming pseudo-scumbag (you have to be reformed to go on Oprah) fudging about how many copies of a sex tape you have stashed away for "insurance" purposes (in your now-noble fight against the millionaires & billionaires bank-rolling the evil Edwardian vendetta): REPEATED FRONT PAGES of the Raleigh N&O and NYT.
From the comment I dropped at the N&O:
Well, guys & gals, very honestly, I've got mixed feelings here.
Judge Ito's (excuse me) Jone's antics confirm that Edwards (obviously bank-rolling this latest waste-of-the-judicial system's time) still has friends in key (if not high) places.
On the other hand, I kinda wish I had had a judge like this when I sued a "non-profit", and the non-profiteers running it repeatedly lied under Oath to get out on the cheap.
You lie! Go to jail!
Indeed, if anyone in a postion of legal oversight in this state would crawl out of their deep black holes of GOB cronyism & corruption, a judge could do it now.
You see, (we may not be judges, but) we more ordinary types don't like to be played either.
Young will land on his feet. He may be hazy on the details (who wouldn't after this roller-coaster ride?). But he's telling the truth about the bigger picture.
Once the Feds indict Edwards (from my lips to God's ear), I have a feeling we'll all be seeing the "evidence" anyway.
This judge makes Ito look like a genius.
And we reluctant fans of this real-life soap opera really need a T-shirt.

3/12 Evening Update:
It seems that Judge Jones has finally figured out that if he jailed Young for contempt in this ridiculous case, he'd be sending the wrong liar to jail.
