Like many others, I was out running quick errands today . . . buying bare essentials like bread & Mountain Dew . . . and generally preparing to hunker down for the great Carolina snow-and/or-ice storm of 2010.
As I mused about what I might read by candlelight when the power goes out (and it ALWAYS go out on Asheboro's Dave's Mountain), a wonderful, awful idea popped into my Grinchy head. What if I could get a copy of Andrew Young's new book, "The Politician"?
It ain't J.D. Salinger. No ma'am/No sir. It's better. I can hardly wait. It's gonna be like snuggling up to a boxed set of National Enquirers (they really do deserve a Pulitzer) featuring the uppity neighbors that used to spit on you.
According to the manager at the Asheboro "Books-a-Million", the original release date for we ordinary mortals (as opposed to the book reviewers and TV pundits) was on February 2nd. But it was moved up to January 30th.
And he would not budge an inch on selling it to me today:(
Evil bastard (no, not really - he's just doing his job). Foiled again.
Looks like I will be calling one of my buddies with a four-wheel-drive tomorrow.
Update: It just keeps getting better and better.
Evening Update: And better. The TV/Internet may have to hold me for a while (if we keep power). It looks like we're all snowed in for at least a few days.
