Just A Singer Always In The Building

The holidays and the blogging break is over (although there may be some adjustments to the way I approach blogging in the future). In addition to the professional duties that pretty much constitute what passes for my real life down East, I've been consumed with two posts this week (I had to get them out of my system).

The first was the Fox 8 critique, published yesterday. The second will concern a very disturbing story in Delaware, and will go up sometime in the next day or so.

So I've missed some stuff.

Like Elvis's 75th birthday on Friday.

I really wasn't much of an Elvis fan until early in my Pediatric residency, when, while covering a Christmas graveyard shift, I was introduced to his Christmas album by another scut-monkey.

I was immediately in love with that voice.

After hearing a gospel compilation a short while later, the love was FOREVER.

There are simply no words that do Elvis Presley's gift justice.

And/so for your listening pleasure, I submit You-Tube links to my two favorite Elvis tunes.

Gospel singer J.D. Sumner recalls a woman approaching the stage in Vegas with a crown sitting atop a pillow and Elvis asking her what it was. She answered, "It's for you. You're the King." Elvis took her hand, smiled, and told her, "No honey, I'm not the King. Christ is the King. I'm just a singer."

For all of his obvious short-comings and contradictions, Elvis Presley knew where his gift came from, and who The Real King is.

Some things do not die. He may have gone home. But Elvis will always be in the building;)
