My last speeding ticket was in Warsaw (Duplin County) several years ago . . . on a four lane straight-away, a half-mile from Interstate 40 . . . on a post-call day, on my way out-of-town.
Total *&^%$#@! speed trap. That's all I'm gonna say about that.
As is alluded in one of JoeBlogg's comments on this story, I've always scratched my head on what law enforcement goes after down there . . . and what they don't.
But Kenansville isn't Amsterdam (see below) or California. The concert was cancelled . . . not because most of the band was arrested, but because Willie's hand was hurting. No pot, no play I guess.

It also amazes me also just how far the government will have to reach to bring charges on these people. They couldn't get Willie on taxes again I guess so they get him for not paying tax on their alcohol.
Actually, back in the 90's, the IRS did "get" Willie on taxes - 16 or 17 million dollars. As I recall, he even relesed an album called "The IRS Tapes" to pay help the bill.
Duplin County is awash in legal alcohol - they've even got a really nice winery in Rose Hill featuring the fruit of the muscadine/scuppernong vines. So the bit about the "privately-distilled" hooch is pretty funny.
You'd think they were in Asheboro "BS" (before Schmidlies).
Short Story on Willie's IRS history
1. Willie's Business Manager and Agent ran off with Willie's investments and didn't file the IRS reports over a period of time.
2. When the correct amount of the Income was sorted out by a "real" accountant. The amount own to the IRS was under $500,000 thousand dollars.
3. The IRS than apply late charges, interest and whatever they could dream up over the time period that the filing was not reported came to over 3 million dollars.
4. Willie's was flat broke and offer to pay off the debt over a period of time with his career income.
5. The IRS refuse! And lien anything that existed in Willie's name.
6. Over the years, the lates fees and interest have grown to about 12 million dollars to the IRS.
7. Willie's lawyers were sharp enough to get his Daughter to run and set up a corporation that he has no ownership in, but does draw a salary of 1 dollar a year and no doubt all the Pot he can smoke while on the Tour Bus.......
8. He lives with his Daughter who owns the Ranch and decides what perks he can have.....
9. Only in America can the government out do the Mafia when it comes to a shakedown forever to a Great America....
10. Obama is a firm believer in that 9/11 was a inside job by the government and Obama is nothing but Bush 2 on Steriods.
11. Willie's former Business Agent and Manager is still doing time for ripping off Willie and creating the problem
I've heard several versions of the story.
I just checked Wikipedia, and that article (by no means the last word on anything) says Willie's debts to the IRS (real and/or imagined) were setted by 1993.
