NO. NOT MORE LATER. MORE NOW. The card was only used on the theory it would speed this out-of-state transaction (something I could have easily financed elsewhere). In fact, the entire transaction will likely be paid off by the end of the month . . . the middle of next month at the latest. The purchase was planned and budgeted for.
And puhlease don't get me started on "customer service".
The ignorance . . . . as to the appraised/fully-insured value of a classic/almost antique truck in pristine/showroom condition . . . a truck now titled to me and fully insured for the purchase price . . . based on a transaction credited to my Discover Card account . . . a transaction I had called the company to clear/approve before it was made . . . an amount that I have already made a payment on (even though the purchase isn't even a month old) . . . the evasiveness, arrogance and rudeness I have endured this afternoon . . . as a customer-in-good-standing with that company . . . it's beyond belief/endurance!
In the first phone call I placed, the DiscoverCard customer service rep said the merchant was obviously lying to me (about not having the funds in hand). "A purchase is a purchase". The transaction was complete and unconditional, and completed last month.
Then (in the second phone call) the line was . . . the truck has to be delivered before we/"the bank" (i.e. DiscoverCard) releases funds to the dealer. So the first customer service rep lied to me.
And, of course, those were not the terms of my transaction with the dealer (which were: Pay for truck and truck will be shipped).
Moreover, this was not stated (by DiscoverCard) as a term of the transaction before I made it.
"We don't talk to customers - only merchants."
Are you fricking kidding me??? Maybe that's why so many merchants won't take your *&^%$#@ card.
The second rep said he had to discuss the situation with "the bank" (meaning DiscoverCard). He took my phone number and said someone would call.
When no one at DiscoverCard deemed it necessary to call me back with an answer after several hours, I called them back. At this point I was not in the mood for the, "we only talk with the merchant" line. My voice was raised. Sharp words were spoken.
I was promised a phone call from an account manager within the hour.
You guessed it. No phone call.
I HATE them. I HATE them. I HATE them. I am so tired of being screwed over by pencil-pushing pissants who treat hard-working, bill-paying people (who don't have to be bailed out) like dirt! This is why American commerce has gone straight-to-hell!I feel a card cancellation and a complaint to various state Attorney Generals coming on if this *&^%$#@ credit-card company does quickly not change its tune.
And no. I don't feel better yet.

These jerks screwing up your truck purchase? Sue hell out of them. They can mess up a wet dream for sure. One of the kids had a Discover Card , ran into a similar situation and took 2 weeks to get the idiots at DC to call them back. Problem was solved but not without threats of legal action.
Problem was/is that those you are dealing with on the phone are not decision makers. This is the first question I ask. Are you the final decision maker on this issue? If not please connect me to that individual IMMEDIATELY.
Hope you get this situation solved soon.
I've rattled many chains today. Screw civil action. This is consumer fraud and if I call anyone, it's going to be two different state Attorney Generals.
The people I'be dealt with so far are CLEARLY not "decision makers".
It should be solved by tomorrow. We won't be waiting two weeks.
And once the balance is paid, I do believe Discover Card and I will be over. There's NO excuse for the run-around I've been given over the last two days.
I too am hating Discover, I was going to cancel, due to their high interest rates. They convinced me to stay on for 6 months and use the card (i hadn't touched this outragous card in a couple of years) and offered 0% for the 6 months. First they tried to charge me for the change of these terms, then after 7 months they lied. They would not reduce my rate, they then sent me a notice that they were increasing my rates. When I expressed my displeasrue with this they canceled the card and revoked my earned bonus money. They have a license to steal and lie all under the guise of policy.
