I have watched "The Guiding Light" on and off since I was a kid. I was always a huge fan of the tortured romance between Reva Shayne and her beloved "Bud", Josh Lewis. One of my fondest soap memories is of a despondent Reva, in full cowgirl-slut regalia, drunkenly singing the Gatlin Brother's classic, "I've Done Enough Dying Today" in a bar . . . after one of her gadzillion break-ups with "Bud". Kim Zimmer in her younger days was simply soap magic.
But I've not been enamoured of recent production changes or storyline arcs (for instance Reva's always improbable circumstances have gotten just way too improbable for anyone to believe anymore - that, and she belongs with Josh).
It's apparently no joke. "The Light" will be going dark this fall after 72 years on the air - birthed before the air even came with pictures.
And that's just sad.
