Someone asked me today if I had done any more - or heard anything - since I did this post on the sorry condition of the distal end of Viewmont Road and its cul-de-sacs/tributaries.
The answer is no on both counts. But I have not forgotten about it. I just got side-tracked. I plan to send copies of these letters to all of my "neighbors" on the streets involved (some of whom already read the blog) . . . and see what kind of corrective action we can stir up.
There is no organized home-owner's association in the neighborhood, so I do not understand how the people who developed this area can get away with passing the repair of the roads off on homeowners (especially since a huge part of the cracks & crumbling are secondary to construction) . . . and not keeping the roads up until the state could take over their maintenance.
I have it on good authority (from DOT employees) that the state could/would assume maintenance of the roads IF they were brought up to spec. It's also the DOT's position that it is the DEVELOPER'S responsibility to maintain the roads.
Someone dropped the ball. At this point, it's going to be an expensive fix. Billie Wilson was probably counting on annexation of Dave's Mtn to absorb her problem - and for the taxpayer to foot her bill.
It just gets old in this town.
