Well, I've taken some calls and e-mails today. Apart from "happy dance" (that Keith Crisco is leaving Asheboro), the word that keeps coming up is evil. So I'll go with it.
To spare me repeating myself, I thought I'd put up a link to a Housecalls search on Mr. Crisco. Apart from the Dave's Mountain annexation battle, my particular distaste for the leadership style of Beverly Perdue's choice for NC Secretary of Commerce stems from the behind-the-scenes machinations of the Asheboro City Council (in conjunction with all of the "right people") . . . a series of meetings which immediately preceded that farce of a "Sacred Assembly" held last January.
It was all and only about strong-arming/sweet-talking local pastors into support alcohol sales without a fight. It was like the Grinch sliming Cindy-Lou-Who back into bed while he took the Christmas tree (I guess you learn that kind of thing somewhere else - perhaps on the global stage?). The pastors refused, the knives came out (for their backs) and the rest is history.
People of faith . . . hard-working/staightforward/honest people . . . good/trusting people . . . people trying to preserve some small part of their values and their history within the framework of the grand & selfish designs of those very-important-types who pretty much killed the town . . . were played for fools and treated despicably. It sure was transparent. But not in a good way.
I saw pure evil that night last January. It wore many suits and sat in church.
