Duplin County and the people in it (especially a few nurses and a doctor or two) will always hold a special place in my heart.
You see, as poor and "backwoods, as they are, Duplin did its very best to try and heal it . . . after the Randolph Hospital/Asheboro stomp. Moreover, the doctors and nurses of Duplin County helped restore at least some of my faith in the system. In stark contrast to Bob and the boys, they didn't shoot the messenger. Instead, they dealt fairly and ultimately firmly with their problems.
My "first-born" cat, TJ, is actually one of the souvenirs I took from the land of magnolias and muscadine wine.
This is good news for the county, and its children.
