I was busy this weekend - with much more important things to do than blog. But I did know about Bev Perdue's visit to Randolph County (courtesy of Asheboro City Councilman, excuse me, "Horseman" Keith Crisco) . . . because I had a mole on the inside . . . my deeply politically-misguided "ex", Tim Greene.
Yes, indeed. "Ordinary" mail-carrier and union-man Tim got to hob-nob with Asheboro's big boys. All of "the right people" were there. The North Carolina Democratic party has room for everybody (after all, you cannot be an elitist snob unless you have someone to look down upon . . . and someone to save from their common self). John & Elizabeth Edwards would be so proud. I hear that even unconvicted felon Bob Morrison wanted to chat Timmy up.
Did you know that nurses look different with their clothes on?
Mind you, Tim knew what he was in for. Being "ordinary" does not make you stupid.
Like her host, Mr. Crisco, Bev is obviously not very choosy about who she hob-nobs with (she used to be a hosptial administrator, you know). The thing is, she should know better. After all, she got the memo.
Our Lieutenant Governor got the memo because several people told me that Bev was "different" . . . that she believed in ethics and high standards in government . . . that she'd fought the "good-old-boys" in her own county and would have no use for liars . . . that she had children & grandchildren, and would care about what two way-overpaid, third-rate executives of a small town/"non-profit" hospital had done to a Pediatrician who came home and tried to do the right thing.
Those people were wrong. Bev never answered the letter. In that respect, she has a lot in common with John Edwards.
You see, Bev Perdue is just like all the rest of the crowd running Raleigh . . . and this state into the ground. Bev is for Bev. Championing an ordinary slobbette who got pummeled by the corrupt healthcare system Bev has helpd oversee might upset her gubernatorial applecart.
I wish I could find JUST ONE honest politician who is not more interested in running for higher office than doing the job they already have.
The joke about Randolph County for years is that we ignorant, backwoods, Bible-toting, "red-county" rednecks don't have our politics right . . . in order for the perks and the pork to trickle down from Raleigh, you've got to hold your mouth just right as you . . . ah . . . well . . . nevermind.
The thing is, I think a lot of people in Randolph County pride themselves on not being dishonest, lying pork-whores who support sleazy politicians that tax and spend and misappropriate billions in public money with little more consequence than a wink and a nod.
But hey, times are changing. And it Asheboro, it should all go down easier with a cold beer. Just ask our "stewardess of the profits", Brooke Schmidly. She made a appearance at the party too.
Now, I'm not wild about some of Pat McCrory's notions. "Privatizing" any part of state government right now . . . in the wake of a mountain of evidence (like the total meltdown of our mental health system) that privatizing must be done with proper oversight . . . is a fundamentally stupid idea.
And if you want to talk about the even bigger picture, I'd say that the nation's financial crisis might have been averted if more people in government (at all levels) were actually doing their jobs instead of trying to sell us something just to buy a vote (that's how the bubbles get so big before they burst) . . .
. . . and if the laws we did have were actually enforced . . .
. . . even if they have to be enforced against people Bev hob-nobs with at hoity-toity lawn parties in Asheboro.
Of course, that's not going to happen with the current crop of yellow-dawgs running Raleigh. The bad guys get bailed out.
As it pertains to the state of our state, I actually agree with Obama on this one. We need new blood. We need real change.
We're not going to get it with Bev Perdue. She's just Jim Hunt and/or Mike Easley in a dress. She's run with this crowd for too long to be anything else. And I have the scars to prove it.
It won't be "history" we make if she's elected. It will be the status quo.
For the last thing this lady is about is "change".
