Prompted by the theme of a conversation with MeB on Bubba's blog, I thought I'd offer up a lesson in "relevance". Not mincing any words here (so the kiddies need to tune out).
An ATM surveillance camera shot these photos of the SOB who probably shot and killed UNC-Chapel Hill Student Body President, Eve Carson (who was pre-med) . . . in what appears to have been a "random" car-jacking/robbery.
Post them on your blog. Forward them on to everyone you know. Let's find the bastard.
And that's the moral of the blogging story, MeB. When people with a legitimate beef come to you for help, you HELP.
You don't trash them. You don't ignore them. You don't make up every excuse in the book to blog (excuse me/blow) them off.
You HELP.
And this one is about Eve. She's in the arms of the angels now.

Hi Doc,
Surely you noticed that both Ed and JR covered this horrid crime. It would make sense to me that you would compliment both for doing so.
I am not positive but would guess that both Ed and JR have read your blog or other information that you provided them and they "chose" to not report for whatever reasons.
My memory (fuzzy at best :) ) is that Ed thought your subject matter was outside his normal reporting area. I have no idea about JR other than he or his paper have hundreds of subjects to choose from daily. (and he did not see a story...won't be the first or last that gets missed)
Question- If Ed and JR had chose to promote/cover your story...and everything else about them was unchanged....would you still dislike/hate both? My opinion is that their relevancy to your cause is insignificant at best. Why waste brain cells that could be spent on your case? Ed, JR and others do have the right to choose....don't they?
Thought- Have you considered creating a fund to help offset your legal expense and use your blog to promote same? (click here to send a paypal donation..etc.) This idea may be what becomes newsworthy...sort of a grass roots effort to wage battle against the big bad guys. You could show donations to date and what legal progress you have made.
I keep hoping that your efforts will be rewarded and that the correct folks will step forward to help.
For me...if it is the choice for our legal system to go after the bad guys in your history or to spend their time chasing the Eve Carson murderer...then I of course choose the Eve Carson subject. I suspect that you do as well. There may not be time to do both well.
This may be part of the reason that you can not find traction with your cause as there are so many new cases for our legal system to investigate that are more horrid than yours.
You know I want you to find justice and peace.
me
MeB, this morning I partially answered this (at least I think I did) on an update to my "young/stupid/terrified" post, so I'm not going to spend a lot of time in the comments here.
I think it is their responsibility as journalists to cover both stories. Of course, in the relative scheme of things, it's more important to catch the bastard that killed Eve Carson. But that does not IN ANY WAY negate what I have been through actually practicing the profession that she aspired to someday join.
As I peruse some of the crap-for-headlines stuff JR is pushing lately, I know there is room for both stories.
As you might recall, I was not complemented for doing my job (or rewarded for going above and beyond). I was fired.
Re: the legal options. You do not seem to be getting it, MeB. I have few choices, in terms of persuing my criminal case, except to turn up the heat on those who have abused (or simply ignored) their "discretionary" powers.
It is the job of the press to police bad government. I've brought some fairly nasty examples of bad government/poor & non-existant oversight to JR's attention, yes?
I would ask you to please not put words in my mouth. I do not "hate" JR or Ed. But I do very much HATE the way they act.
I'm not giving any legal options away here. But if I do pursue legal action, I can more than prove that I've exercised all other reasonable options to get public officials to do their jobs.
The grass-roots efforts are coming together . . . but it's not going to be about raising money - for that is playing to Ed's hand (I keep forgetting you're late to this party - and may not remember the "it's all about money - go sue somebody" argument).
The one thing that I would ask you to do as a blogger/commenter is to STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR ED AND JR. My blog is right here - front and center. They never visit. They rarely comment. They just ignore.
I/Bubba/others are supposed to visit theirs and then get gang-banged or banned.
Let these brave & courageous cutting-edge journalists come here and answer for themselves. Stop carrying their water.
ok...you don't dislike them as people ...got it.
You would rather others not express positive thoughts about those two....got it
I do not believe I was making excuses for anyone.
time for me to bow out.
Once again, MeB. I respectfully request that you stop putting words in my mouth.
You can say all the nice things about Ed and JR you like. But that does not negate the very nasty things "those two" have done to people like me. I think John Robinson and Ed Cone can and should speak for themselves.
They can do it right here. Funny how they rarely do.
Instead they've chosen to ridicule and marginalize and ignore and ban. What they have NOT done is investigate or report. As journalists, it is not something I can/will excuse . . . especially as yet another expensive healthcare scandal rolls out of Raleigh.
Ever notice how all of the journalistic wailing and gnashing of teeth is AFTER the money is gone and people are dead?
Eve Carson aspired to be a physician. In a sense, some of this battle has been for her - before I even knew who she was. No doctor should have been put through something like this. I'm not the only one . . . but I am one of the few who has fought back so determinedly and for so long.
I can't do anything for Eve now - except post the photos of the man who killed her and hope someone tracks him down/brings him to justice.
But I can continue to fight so that no other young doctor or future doctor . . . in this state with the sorriest, most pathetic systems of medical & legal oversight one could imagine . . . has to go through the same thing I have.
"Bow out" if you wish. Be clear that that's not my intention when I answer your comments.
I am fighting for the system to work in the simple/straightforward/EQUAL way it is supposed to work - the way we are all told it will work. That system includes journalists (especially Ed and JR - who "teamed" to present us with notion of "citizen journalism" - which so far appears to be a big scam) doing their jobs.
You speak occasionally of how I come off. Sometimes though, you come across as someone who thinks I am not on-the-ball enought to have considered (and either already done or discarded - for good reasons) some of the suggestions you make.
Believe me. While a few have gone down fighting, none of my brain cells have been "wasted".
