Right There In River City: Edwards Spinning Out

The spin notwithstanding, the tires on the Edwards bandwagon are flat. Guarino nailed it. I am therefore taking the good doctor's advice, and leaving well enough alone.

I more than appreciated the "Music Man" analogy, Joe;) After all, River City was in Iowa.

Update: More (spot on) thoughts from Doug Clark (about what sets Edwards apart from Obama in 2008): "Could it be that this time, Edwards' rhetoric seems to emphasize fear over hope, division over unity? That Edwards is appealing to anger and envy, trying to build resentment against "those people" in Washington or wherever who supposedly are holding ordinary Americans down?"

I think that if the man had not believed his own hype . . . if, in 2004, he had stayed in the Senate and done a better job (as one of "those people in Washington") of representing ordinary North Carolinians (say, like this Pediatrician - screwed in public service - who pleaded for his help) . . . if he had paid any kind of real "dues" . . . he might have some credibility and perhaps a fighting chance.

Now, he's barely blowing enough hot/stale air to play those 76 trombones.

Update #2: Another good Edwards zinger from Pat Buchanan (courtesy of Everest over at Guarino's): "The guy that gets $400 haircuts and lives in a mansion can't play the guy with a hoe . . . "

We're not a bunch of jurors: hand-picked, locked in a room, bored out-of-our-skulls, and divorced from reality.

The razzle-dazzle doesn't work.

what I wonder is this? Why does Edwards keep changing where he is from? I thought he was from Robbins. I guess he will be from where the votes are.

didn't know if you knew of this website. Its shows all of the candidates from all over and what they are running for and the issues they are for. www.issues2000.org

I think for the next few weeks, John-Boy (and Elizabeth) will be from South Carolina;)

Alas, even if Edwards' quest for the White House tanks, I fear we will not be rid of him - for (as is pointed out in the commentary at Joe's), the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area is always a soft landing pad for NC Democrats who failed at the big time.

I will check out the website.

I think Edwards did very well tonight.

I did not watch the "debates".

I figure it's a train wreck . . . for himself if he loses . . . and for us/the country as a whole if he can turn it around and pull off a win.

I try to watch and learn from both sides and to keep an open mind that people change.

If I was one of the higher ranking decision makers for the democratic party I would be challenged due to who may be most popular vs. who can win the presidency.

It would not surprise me to see their choice be Edwards as Pres and Obama as VP.

Ahhh . . . so you've bought into the "change" theme . . .

And as opposed the "high-ranking decision makers in the Democratic Party", I was under the impression that "We the People" made these decisions.

Silly me;)

I am currently fascinated by the "she got angry" spin-fest regarding Hillary's performance. I mean come on. We know what Hillary is and what she is capable of. Yet in her defense (Lord help me), the current hullabaloo demonstrates resoundingly that a woman cannot be passionate or powerful without being perceived as a "bitch".

If this is going to happen every time Hillary furrows her brow (as if "the guys" don't do it), forget the question (as posed by "Nick" over at Gurarino's), "Is America ready for a black President?" . . . we're not ready for a woman.

I am rarely surprised anymore.

It is still very early and just trying to think through the woman, the black man, the good looking white senator and the Gov...who might be the best choice.

I believe that the leadership plays an important role in who is well liked by the media and the little folks like you and me. For this topic perception is reality.

If I were to vote democrat I would not vote for Hillary due to her husband. I am hopeful that Obama has a great chance and folks look beyond color but am concerned. So far Richardson has not pulled in the popularity needed. This leaves Edwards as an electable candidate with his choice of running mate...Obama. I can see the reverse being slightly less but true with Obama as the Pres and Edwards as the VP.

I truly believe that a woman or minority can easily be Pres. It has to be the right person. .....Colin Powell could have pulled it off at the peak of his popularity I think...

I have no concerns about Obama in terms of his ability to win (whether he's qualified or not is another question entirely). Race is simply not an issue. Besides, he's got the ultimate endorsement in Oprah. Wait and watch for the Queen of all Media to crank it up now.

I have thought all along that (1) "Billary's" so-called "experience" is a myth, and (2) she is simply not electable in the top spot in a general election. You wanna see the rednecks (key word RED) come out of the woods? Put her on the top of the ticket.

I don't think Edwards can pull it out of the hat. There are too many inconsistancies . . . and too much elitist hypocrisy to pull the flannel over we ordinary folks' eyes. He was in Iowa for YEARS and could not win the top spot.

There ain't nothing but ordinary folks in Iowa.
