Under The Scalpel Again

There are many things I have been meaning to post on (most specifically the local election results), but it all will have to wait. I will be taking some time off from blogging.

Tomorrow morning I will be having surgery in Hickory. A dear friend and former Asheboro colleague, Nancy Toy, is taking care of me. The issues are not life-threatening, but the decision I've made about the problems I've got was gut-wrenching (get it?). It is the right decision. As the single female with "no family", I've covered a lot of other women's pregnancies in my day. Let's just say no one will have to cover one for me. A pair of well-connected liars and a protracted legal battle I never should have had to have fought has a lot to do with that. Toss in two local newspapers and a District Attorney that have had no interest in playing fair or seeing justice done, and this Pediatrician did not have the resources and ran out of time to work on a personal life and have babies of her own. My future was sucked away in increments to serve the best interests of Bob Morrison and Steven Eblin. With very few exceptions, everyone who was in a position to help and could have helped, didn't. A lot of "honorable" people weren't.

Fortunately, I can simply extend the medical sabbatical I started in September (for surgical correction of the botched 1997 sinus surgery at Randolph) through the end of the year. Things will be tight, but I worked like a dog this year and planned ahead. I have to . . . I do not rely upon the taxpayer to supplement my income or pay for my vacations/medical insurance/leaves of absence.

This post is dedicated to the North Carolina Medical Board, the ultimate "good-ole-boy" organization, whose notions of "professionalism", "collegiality", "ethics", "commaraderie" and "integrity" never served as impetus to help/protect one of its own bogged down in the mire for putting a patient first.

Dear Dr. J: One of my readers pointed me toward your site. Wow! Now we know who we are fighting for. I hope you are recovering and all is well. You and your readers might be interested in a speech on Why the Time for Tort Reform is NOW by Bill Simon (2002 candidate for Calif governor) that I edited and posted the other day on my blogsite. You can find it at www.freedomscap.blogspot.com. Same colors as yours! I look forward to your recovery and re-bloggery!
