"Working" With Congressman Coble

This post has been sitting on the back-burner. I had a good July 4th holiday (for a change) and decided to stay away from the "Devils' Window" for a few days.

I stepped back to the window to re-engage on Ed Cone's blog yesterday. I'm sick of so-called "journalists" telling me that my story is "difficult" to understand (or that I make it "difficult") when they haven't even sat down with me to discuss it AND look at the black & white evidence.

My horoscope today said to "reimind others of their obligations to you". Now I read the scopes for entertainment, and don't put any real stock in them. But it actually wasn't bad advice. So here goes:

Over three weeks back, I sent an e-mail to Congressman Howard Coble's "girl-Friday", Rebecca Redding (this is after regularly checking my mail to see if she would deliver what she had promised - i.e. "letters of interest" from the Congressman to federal entities supporting a proper investigation of my perjury & contempt allegations against senior Randolph Hospital officials).

Here is the text:

Subject: Question re: Letters
Rebecca,

A return receipt indicates that you have received my packet of letters (with cover to you) dated May 8, and mailed on May 20, 2006.

It has been three weeks. What is the status of the letters from Congressman Coble on my behalf - that you promised would be sent to both the US Attorney's Office in Greensboro and the Internal Revenue Service?

The IRS has already responded with correspondence, and I have had a preliminary conversation with the agent assigned to the case. There was no argument that the financial information Randolph Hospital/Randolph Medical Associates officials withheld during litigation (to my considerable detriment) was public record . . . and was, in fact, far from "confidential".

The agent and I discussed arranging an interview. Due to my heavy work schedule, this will likely not take place until September.

The US Attorney's Office continues its silence.

As we have discussed before, I am weary of being public/federal service roadkill. Given all of the talk of "ethics" in Washington and Raleigh these days, and in view of the recent Enron verdicts, I would appreciate Congressman Coble's support of a full, thorough and finally FAIR investigation of this matter.

Please advise as to when I might expect the Congressman's correspondence to go out. I would, of course, like to be copied.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter,

Mary Johnson, M.D., FAAP
Asheboro, N.C.

Now, as I've posted, I got a letter from the IRS. But so far I've not been copied anything from the Congressman indicating his office ever sent the "letter of interest" Rebecca said he would . . . something that might "turn up the heat".

Believing I had (once again) been very patient with the square wheels of government, I called Mr. Coble's Asheboro office twice during the last week of June. I left messages for Rebecca requesting follow-up. No response. That Friday, I got a pre-recorded message that the Asheboro office would be closed next week and the Greensboro office could be contacted for "emergencies".

Several "well-meaning" people on the blogs have suggested that I cut the Congressman a large check to show my appreciation for his "interest" in my case - that it might make things happen faster.

I voted for Mr. Coble (I suppose he thinks that's no big thing when he runs un-opposed). And I am his constituent. That should be enough.
