The Lady Lives

This blogging thing IS addictive. I originally was going to post evey 2-3 days. Then it became every day. Then I was going take off weekends.

But as the Mac Rebennack (aka Dr. John) Legendary Sessions play in the background of my morning coffee & abreviated Saturday-morning-surf, I found this.

New Orleans matters. And my heart sings.

Rob, I did not want to do it, but I've put a lot of thought into the position. And if you look at what has been going on lately in the local blogosphere, it's not so hard to understand.

There has been a lot of talk about "civility" and "meaningful discussion" in the blogoshere this week. Problem is, I haven't seen (or experienced) it.

I entered the medium because I saw its potential. But good people with good ideas and strong priciples are stepping back from blogging or stopping all together - because other people have behaved like jerks even as they plead the relevancy of this medium as a mechanism for change.

I look at my blog right now as an on-line journal of sorts. As of this week, I will likely get back to the once-a-day or every-other-day post (no weekends) concept that I originally came up with. My posts will frequently be long and essay-like - on difficult subjects, which takes time in and of itself. There is a life beyond the computer screen, so the time-consuming, soul-sucking "battles" that frequent this medium do not really appeal to me right now. There are not enough hours in the day.

I have other things on the agenda - most importantly a blogging project/experiement that I'm going to try get up this week. I'm going to test the N&R's theory that "one voice makes a difference" . . . as well as the "power" & relevency of blogging as a mechanism for change.

Accordingly, I have decided to review all comments before they are posted. I am quite willing to listen to (and post) ideas that counter mine, and I am certainly open to principled debate.

But the snarks and anons need not apply.

Hope you understand.
