Alas Poor Leo

It’s a holiday. I had my own special Easter service-of-sorts on my back porch this morning – just me and a Bible and the birds. Then I made lunch for my Mom and my boyfriend. After that, I did a whole lot of nothing.

Watched some History Channel this afternoon - there was a really neat set of programs on the Ten Commandments - their history and application over the years. There were some interesting points on bearing false witness and even perjury that I may use in upcoming posts.

“The West Wing” did John Spencer proud tonight in its “Requiem” episode. Ex-Bartlet Chief of Staff (and VP-Elect) Thomas Leo McGarry got a nice send-off (wipe tear from eye). There are four more episodes left in the series.

While I suppose many would assume Abigail Bartlet (First Lady/”Dr. Rizzo”) would be my favorite major character on the show, she is not. Nor is Claudia Jean Cregg (Press Secretary turned Chief of Staff) – although C.J. is a close second. Believe it or not, my favorite occupant of Bartlet’s West Wing actually isn’t an occupant anymore. He is the tortured and brilliant former Communications Director, Toby Ziegler.

Toby goes to the dark places . . . and hangs out. I get Toby.

Other “lesser” scenery-chewers who stole snippets of my affection over the years were the characters of Ainsley Hayes, Amy Gardner, Admiral Fitzwallace, Oliver Babbish, Bruno Gianelli, and English Ambassador to the US, Lord John Marbury.

I will be very sad to see this television series go.

Note to Bartlet: Pardon Toby.
